NME surprisingly has a very male readership. According to its recent media pack their magazines readership is 76% male. This tells us that the alternative rock sort of genre is probably more popular with the male population. The average age of an NME reader is 23, showing that they also have a very young readership, again telling us that the genre of music is more appealing to the younger generations.
The readers have also been shown to have a very strong link with the magazine. Research they did showed that many NME readers have a strong relationship with the magazine for many reasons that include being able to trust the sources and because its full of useful facts.
The research also showed that NME readers are 'obsessed' by music and that they rely on the adverts of new music inside the magazine to keep them up to date with the latest trends. The research also showed that NME readers enjoy watching films and on average buy a single DVD a month which is twice as often as the general population.
